First Date: Justene Jaro
DS: You're a true island girl one-half Puerto Rican and one-half Pilipino mix. How did that mix happen?
Justene: My Mom had visited the Philippines and then decided to move here. That's where she met my dad and the rest is history.
DS: Do you have a big family?
Justene: It's just me and my two older sisters.
DS: Did the three of you cause a lot of trouble?
Justene: No. We were angels. Really.
DS: How long did you live in the Philippines?
Justene: I lived there until I was three. Then we moved to California until I turned six and then we moved to Atlanta.
DS: What was it like growing up in Atlanta?
Justene: The city has changed so much over the years. It went from a pretty laid back rural atmosphere to a big-city pace.
DS: So how did you get into the import scene?
Justene: Someone saw my profile on MySpace and then they asked me to come out to a Hot Import Nights show in Los Angeles.
DS: Wasn't it a bit scary flying out to be in a "strangers" booth at a car show?
Justene: My older sister came along so it was safe.
DS: Is that the show where Derek found you?
Justene: Yeah, that was only back in March. I can't believe I'm going to be on the cover of DSport. That's so cool.
DS: What keeps you busy?
Justene: Right now I'm in the process of taking all of my general education classes at my local community college. I hope I pick my major by the time I transfer to a four-year college to get my degree.
DS: What's most people's first impression about you?
Justene: They probably think I'm really goofy and that I talk too much. I'm really hyper. But I'm not like psychotic, I'm just upbeat hyper.
DS: How would you describe yourself?
Justene: Happy, confusing, dynamic, extreme and manic. My biggest flaw is that I'm compulsively late.
DS: Describe you typical week.
Justene: I go to school two days a week. I help to take care of my niece. I run around. I might go out once or twice. I'm not really a party monster. I like to do new stuff.
DS: What is the biggest misconception that people have about you?
Justene: A lot of people think I'm ditzy, because I'm so talkative and upbeat. The funny thing is that I actually get good grades in school.
DS: What would you like our DSport readers to know about you?
Justene: I'm approachable. If you see me at the mall, run over and give me a hug.
DS: You know we are going to actually put that in the magazine?
Justene: (Laughing) let's see if it works.
