EVENT COVERAGE December 2006 Issue 48
NDRA New England
New England Dragway - Epping, NH

NOPI Staff Report

August 5-6, 2006 was just another great day at another great track; no wonder it was no surprise that some amazing racing action took place in front of some lucky fans at the New England Dragway in Epping New Hampshire. With the weather providing ideal conditions, racers chalked up five new NDRA records, packed the stands all weekend and built momentum for the succeeding NDRA event at Maryland International Raceway.

Norris Prayoonto set the NDRA and World ET Record in his Honda Insight by laying down several astonishing passes. By posting a 9.642-second pass in his first qualifying effort then eclipsing that mark with a scorching-fast 9.611-second run, the new national Pro Stock record was made. The Clutch Masters / Omni Power / IPS team leader sent notice that they were the dominate team in sport compact Pro Stock; however, he fell to teammate Saul Salceda in the finals after trouble at the tree.

Don Nase Jr.'s Extreme Compact dragster just kept getting better with each and every pass completed. During NDRA's New England race, Don Nase Jr. established a new ET Record at 6.457-seconds. Mile per Hour Records were set by Pro Compact sensation Ben Hopko at 218.28 MPH then it was backed by a 217.81 MPH pass. Setting a new Pro Outlaw RWD MPH Record, Big David Hance of New York Motorsports flew through the beams at 205.01 MPH. In the Pro Outlaw FWD class, Jason Hunt piloted his Chevy Cobalt to a new MPH Record at 199.77 MPH.

Chris Anderson, head of AAP Motorsports landed in the Winner's Circle in the BF Goodrich Tires Pro Street Time Class by defeating number-one qualifier Peter Champani in the finals. In addition teammate Dan Dixon took his second straight win in the highly-competitive Turbo Street Class.

Chuck Seitsinger kept his winning streak alive in the Pro Four Cylinder by using every bit of his luck and the talent of his crew chief Randy Sprague. After they ran an 8.413-second pass in qualifying they found that the engine and turbo were very badly damaged. The duo took what usable parts they had left to piece together an engine. That engine stayed in one piece and eventually powered the car to an 8.35-second pass to default Darryl Hudson's Eclipse in the finals.

Christian Rado claimed his first win his new Pro FWD Scion TC that debuted two weekend ago in Atco, New Jersey. The World Electronics Team ran problem-free, unfortunately for Jason Hunt; he suffered a flywheel fracture which gave Rado a competition-free win. Never the less, the CSI Team was first to congratulate Christian on his victory at New England Dragway and the first ever win for a Scion TC in Pro FWD. It's really great to see the sportsmanship and friendships between fellow racers. Ben Hopko extended his Pro Compact winning streak to three in his awesome Ford Probe taking out David Hance's NY Motorsports Mustang, 6.72-seconds to 7.15-seconds in the finals.

NDRA did a great job in introducing import drag racing to the "Live Free or Die" state. Taking performance to new levels in new places is becoming a regular occurrence on the NDRA tour. Hopefully, support from new sponsors in 2007 will allow the NDRA to host an event at your local drag strip.
