Publisher's Note
More Effort, Better Results
Many of DSPORT's competitors can't understand why the readership of DSPORT continues to grow. After all, the other import-performance magazines will sometimes feature some pretty respectable cars and some decent photography. Some other import titles also have a model on the cover, making them appear even more similar to DSPORT. However, when one looks at the subscription and newsstand sales performance for the competitive magazines one trend is the same. All of the other import-performance titles are consistently losing readers month after month. During this same time, DSPORT is growing month after month. So what's DSPORT's secret?
One reason for DSPORT's success is the level of effort put into each issue. DSPORT attends more events, tests more vehicles and showcases more aftermarket product than any other import-performance magazine. While this requires a great deal more effort than just purchasing feature-car stories from a freelance photographer, the end result is a magazine that packs "real" content. This month, a number of the staff sacrificed some weekends to make the "hands down" best issue of DSPORT ever.
Raising the Bar
You may have noticed that DSPORT has once again improved the quality of the paper and printing. With paper prices on the perpetual rise, most magazine publishers look to find cheaper grades of paper to increase the bottom line. Hard Media, Inc. has a different philosophy. Its philosophy is to put together the highest-quality product possible. If this means that we spend thousands of dollars more per issue than our competition, then so be it. The DSPORT reader has come to expect the best and that is all that we have plans to deliver.
Welcome Aboard
This month, we welcome long-time DSPORT contributor Richard Tran to the staff as our full-time Marketing & Promotions Manager. Richard has been a friend of the DSPORT staff since the magazine first launched and he's often helped locate a number of DSPORT's cover models. As the latest addition to the DSPORT engine, Richard's objective will be to promote and market DSPORT so that our family of readers will continue to grow. In addition to partnering with a number of event promoters and internet communities, Richard will also be working on a number of branding and merchandising projects that are going to be beneficial to every DSPORT reader.
It's back, DSPORT DVD Edition
For the past two weeks, we've been doing our best to host the staff of Ignition DVD from Australia. As you may recall, DSPORT partnered with Ignition to produce the DSPORT DVD #2 which was distributed with the March 2008 issue of the magazine. Next month, DSPORT DVD #3 will hit the stands in our July issue. After reviewing some of the content, we can easily say that DSPORT DVD #3 is easily our best DVD ever. As with DSPORT the magazine, it will be our mission to make each successive DSPORT DVD better than the previous edition. In addition to this July edition, we have already planned our DVD#4 and DVD #5 that will be distributed with the September and December 2008 issues of DSPORT, respectively. If we are able to garner enough support from manufacturers in the import-performance industry, our goal will be to offer the Ignition presented DSPORT DVD every other month in 2009. As always, if there is something or someone that you would like to see in print or on video, be sure to drop us a line.
