Like frenzied sharks, the Formula D challengers prepared for the sixth round of battle in the 2008 championship. Infineon Raceway in beautiful Sonoma, CA set the stage for these gladiators on Saturday, September 13th, 2008. Sunny skies and eager fans welcomed the competition.
Rebels Return
After a far too long hiatus, this round ushered in the return of "Wild" Bill Sherman. Thanks to the support of Retaks and Bridgestone, Sherman is again waging war between the K-rails serving up entertainment and destruction for all his fans.
The Battle Begins
Tanner Foust, in the Rockstar 350Z, got things off to a successful start defeating Michihiro Takatori and Vaughn Gittin in the first two rounds of eliminations. Rhys Millen and the RMR Red Bull Pontiac Solstice paved his way through the quarter finals, plowing over Robbie Nishida and Conrad Grunewald. Meeting up in the semi-finals, Tanner triumphed over Sherman as Rhys muscled past Ryan Tuerck. In the final bout, Tanner demolished Rhys and seized the top spot on the podium.
The Final Rung
Only one round left to go and Tanner Foust has finally bumped Sam Hubinette to take over the number one spot. The de-throned Hubinette now resides in the number two spot with Rhys Millen chomping at the bit in third. Yoshihara's qualifying performance proved just enough to maintain his number four spot. A first round victory proved effective in securing Forsberg the fifth spot in the top five.
Final Round. Fight!
The Final Battle Royal will commence October 11th at the Toyota Speedway in Irwindale, CA. Any of the top five competitors can upset the standings and steal the crown for the 2008 Formula D championship. Attendance is expected to surpass capacity as these cutthroat competitors prepare for their big 'finale'. Paint, parts and tires are sure to litter the track as the winner will take all.
