"You're an idiot. Let me give it a try." As I grab the room key and try to open the door, that blinking red light tells me that a trip to the front desk is a must. "Excuse me, but my room key doesn't seem to be working." The manager responds, "What's your room number?" "We are in room 121, we checked in yesterday." After a few key punches on his keyboard, we hear, "that reservation was only for one night." A 15-minute round of heated debate leaves us still without a hotel room. As we call every hotel in the phonebook, we learn that all of Hawaii is sold out for the NFL Pro Bowl.

It is now 1am in Hawaii and the staff has just finished closing up the track at the 2003 Toyota IDRC Aloha Nationals. The original plan was to go back to the hotel, change clothes, go out and celebrate. Since we were behind schedule we had to skip ahead to the celebration. It's one of those "we're screwed, let's figure it out later" situations.

We decide to hit an old friend's bar for some much needed beer. As we sit down, Jensen, Kevin and I simultaneously spot an incredible beauty. "Oh my God. She's hot." "Damn, where did she come from?" "That's got to be the best looking girl to ever set foot in a bar" were the thoughts racing through our minds. This beautiful girl with a killer smile is mixing drinks behind the bar. We are about a car length away sitting in a booth. Thoughts begin to race through my head as I try to justify why we didn't just sit at the bar. Then I'm struck by a bolt of logic. Why don't I just go over and say "hi" to my two friends that are bartending too? Maybe they'll introduce us or something.

I notify Jensen and Kevin that "I'm going in." They set their alert status on high as they crack a smile and watch my every move. As I approach the bar, I make eye contact with my friends. I smile, give the head nod of acknowledgement and begin my final approach to the bar. Just then, I sense movement from the corner of my eye. Instinct takes over and before I know it my head is now pointed at this beautiful girl as my eyes come into focus on her face. Full unadulterated eye contact has now been established. I'm scared.

She then speaks, "Mike, oh my God. How are you?" At this point, I'm pretty certain that I'm dead. Yeah, I probably fell asleep on the way back from the track and Kevin crashed the rental car. Fortunately, it is apparent that my faith in the Lord was strong enough and I made it to Heaven.

Her arms begin to open to give me a hug. The question of "Am I supposed to go into the light?" begins to circulate in my head. I react by opening my arms for an embrace. She says, "I haven't seen you in a while. Did you come here with Neil?" Then it all hits me. On my God. This is Kimberly.

It all came back to me. I hadn't seen Kim for about two or three years. I met her about six years ago through my friend Neil. That was back in the days when she wore braces. She was a cute, 16-year old. But who would have guessed that she would mature into such a stunning beauty?
